Alexander Graham Bell

In early 20th century, Alexander Graham Bell advocated legislation to prohibit deaf persons from marrying each other (and require compulsory sterilization of deaf girls). The reason was to prevent hereditary deafness from passing to new generations, forming a deaf human race. Such a legislation would have required every deaf person to marry an hearing person, or else live "in sin" or live alone.

What is our world coming to...

Excerpt from Towleroad

A group of parents are suing Castro Valley High School in California because it allowed this lesbian pastor to speak on the school's "diversity day". Apparently the parents were never taught the meaning of diversity so they won't allow their kids to learn it either.

separation of church and state?

What ever happened to separation of church and state. I find this blurb, from an article on same sex marriage in Maine, concerning.

---------------------------
..."Not to sound in any way trite or automatic, but the biggest need we have is for people to pray -- praying for the church here in the state of Maine," he says.

That is because the church will have a tremendous role in providing volunteers to obtain petition signatures, Emrich explains. The organization also has a need for finances, he adds, because homosexual activist groups will pull out all the stops in an effort to defeat them.

Associated Press says the deadline for collecting enough signatures will likely fall in mid-September -- about the same time the same-sex marriage law is due to take effect. The law would be stayed as soon as the signatures are submitted for official review...

golden gaytime

Found this article on a great site: mentalfloss

Gaytime ice cream bars have been sold in New Zealand for decades, and through some trick of marketing genius, have weathered the gradual shift in the popular meaning of the word “gay” without much trouble. This is an old, I think completely unironic commercial for Gaytime (”it’s so hard to have a gaytime on your own!”) —

Here’s a recent Gaytime ad, where they just unapologetically run with it, making fun of their own name:

Iowa court says gay marriage ban unconstitutional

The Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling Friday finding that the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making Iowa the third state where marriage is legal.

i've been quoted

everyday i ride the elevator car and wonder who responds to the requests like 'login and tell us your favorite food' or 'tell us about your crazy boss'. well a few weeks ago i decided to respond to a question about the strangest food you've ever eaten. i figured it would go in cyber space and never be seen.

well a few hours ago i started getting calls and emails asking if i had been to iceland. and if i had - well then i'd been quoted on the capivate network.

"What's the weirdest food you've ever eaten" to which my response was: "While in Iceland I was offered a traditional dish. I ate it... Turned out to be rotten shark."

Here are some screenshots from the elevator ride! (Apologies for the terrible photos - taken on bberry on a moving elevator)

And here's a photo of the rotten shark from my archives.

Crystal Pier - San Diego

Every year for the past couple years the family gets together over the holidays and goes somewhere in California. This year we went to Crystal Pier in San Diego (minus my brother and his wife who could not make it). As you can see it's quite beautiful. The place is quite unique as your cottage/bungalow is actually directly over the ocean.

the shoes

While on vacation in California I photographed a model. Had to take off my shoes as I was struck by a wave and they were soaking wet!!!!
